Chelsea to enter race for Atletico Madrid star?
Chelsea are reportedly planning to enter the race for Atletico Madrid star Kieran Trippier following the injury setback for Reece James.
James sustained a serious hamstring injury against Brighton & Hove Albion recently, and he could be sidelined for at least two months.
This leaves the Blues with only Cesar Azpilicueta as a specialist right wing-back option, and they could be forced to spend on a new signing.
Trippier has been touted to return to the Premier League for several months, and it was recently claimed that Newcastle were favourites to sign him.
The Tynesiders have negotiated a deal worth £25m, but reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that the Blues could hijack the move.
The west London giants could offer him the assurance of regular game time, particularly with the uncertain future of Azpilicueta beyond the summer.
Azpilicueta has entered the final six months of his Blues deal, and it is reported that he could join Barcelona on a free transfer next season.
