Arsenal compensated Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for contract termination
Arsenal reportedly paid a compensation fee for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to terminate his contract.
The Gabon international was released by the Gunners on deadline day before he made the permanent move to Barcelona.
It was initially suggested that the Gunners had saved £27 million in wages, but that does not appear the case, as per Times.
Aubameyang was reluctant to leave the club without a compensation package, and he accepted a sum of around £7 million.
The fee will be paid in instalments instead of a single payment. Meanwhile, Aubameyang took a significant pay-cut to join Barcelona.
He has signed a contract until the summer of 2025, but the deal could be mutually terminated at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.
The 32-year-old endured a tough 18 months with the Gunners, and will be hoping for a change of fortunes with the Blaugrana.
He is expected to play as a number nine for the Catalan giants, who have plenty to do to finish in the Champions League spots.
