Tottenham swoop for Modric
Tottenham have completed a shock coup for Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Luka Modric, the Croatian who looked destined to be heading for Newcastle. The player arrives at White Hart Lane with a lofty reputation and for a reported £15.8 million.
A statement on the Spurs' official website read: "The club is delighted to announce that it has reached agreement with Dinamo Zagreb for the transfer of midfielder Luka Modric.
"Personal terms have been agreed with the player and he will now undertake a medical and apply for a work permit."
It is reported that Modric could earn as much as £75,000 a week at Tottenham.
Modric is one of the star performers of a Croatian side that knocked England out of the Euro 2008 Qualifiers.
