Manchester United identify their top midfield target
Manchester United have earmarked West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice as their top priority for the summer.
The Red Devils have slumped in the Premier League recently with back-to-back draws, and their top four hopes are fading.
Despite this, the hierarchy are expected to spend big this summer, and the main focus will be on pursuing a defensive midfielder.
Rice has been on their radar for the past couple of years, but a deal has not materialised due to the hefty transfer valuation.
Nothing has changed over the past few months, but the board are now prepared to break the bank for the England international.
Rice has two years remaining on his existing deal with the Hammers, but the club can extend his stay for another 12 months.
Hence, they can control his destiny at the moment. David Moyes' side won't entertain bids of less than £100m for his services.
Chelsea are also among contenders to land Rice. The midfielder may prefer to join them, having previously spent time in the academy.
