Chelsea weigh up move for Yan Couto
The impressive form and progress of Brazilian right-back Yan Couto has caught the eye of Chelsea's scouting staff, who are set to make a bid of £19 million to sign the 22-year-old right-back, currently playing on loan at Girona from Man City. City are ready to sell the defender, who after two fantastic seasons in La Liga wants to prove himself in the Premier League.
City had hoped that Yan Couto might be an alternative to Kyle Walker at right-back, but the England international, who captained the Cityzens to the Premier League championship last season, continues to show good form at the highest level.
Couto arrived at City in 2020 from Brazilian club Coritiba, and spells on loan at Braga and Girona followed. The 5 foot 6 defender caught the eye this season in particular, as Girona surprised many with their league form. Yan Couto has already appeared for Brazil's national team four times, and is expected to play an important part of the national team's squad for many years to come.
It is understood that a former Man City staff member, now at Chelsea, has recommended the signing of Couto. That follows a previous recommendation to sign Cole Palmer from City.
