Newcastle United and Aston Villa have emerged as shock contenders to sign Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba this summer.

The Frenchman has been with the Red Devils for nearly six seasons, but he could leave on a free transfer when his contract expires in June.

Pogba has been touted for a possible reunion with Juventus while Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona have been linked with him.

However, The Sun claims that Pogba could prefer to stay in the Premier League with Villa and Newcastle planning shock contract offers.

Villa have ambitious owners in their ranks, and they have spent over £100 million in signings over the past few summer transfer windows.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are expected to go on a big spending spree this summer following their takeover by a Saudi-led consortium.

Eddie Howe was backed with a £93m spending spree in January, and the club are expected to make more high-profile signings hereafter.

Both players could meet Pogba's current wage demands, but the Frenchman could still snub them due to the lack of Champions League football.
