Thomas Tuchel provides injury update on Chelsea pair

Mateo Kovacic news

Chelsea midfield duo could make FA Cup final

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has said that Mateo Kovacic and N'Golo Kante will be assessed ahead of tomorrow's FA Cup final.

Kovacic sustained an ankle injury against Leeds United in midweek, and following the game, Tuchel said that he may not be fit for Saturday.

However, the midfielder now has an outside chance of making the final. Tuchel was optimistic about his potential availability tomorrow.

He told Chelseafc.com: "The advantage is that the ligament is already torn from the last incident so there is no new injury but heavy pain and it’s heavily swollen so we’re hoping that maybe time is enough that he makes it."

Meanwhile, Kante has been out with an undefined injury himself, but Tuchel remains hopeful that he will be deemed fit to make the matchday squad.

He added: "He’s also trying and tried yesterday in team training and did more or less everything, hopefully now without a reaction."

Ruben Loftus-Cheek partnered Jorginho in midweek after Kovacic's setback, and there is a high probability that he could start tomorrow.

The Blues graduate had a slow start to the campaign, but has been a regular under Tuchel during the backend amid injuries to key players.
