Man Utd to battle Chelsea for Croatian defender?

Manchester United are set to battle Chelsea in the race to sign RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, according to The Telegraph.

The Red Devils are keen on pursuing a central defender this summer, and it has emerged that Jurrien Timber is their prime target.

However, the Dutchman has second thoughts over a move, considering he could miss out on the World Cup if he fails to adapt.

Amidst this, United are looking at alternative targets, and The Telegraph cites that they have an eye on signing Gvardiol from Leipzig.

Chelsea are also interested in the former Dinamo Zagreb man, but it is uncertain whether Leipzig will consider any transfer bids.

The Croatian still has four years remaining on his contract. He was signed for around £17m, and it may take a huge outlay to prise him away.

United and Chelsea have also been linked with Leipzig's Christopher Nkunku, but it is clear that he won't be up for sale this summer.
