Zack Steffen to leave Man City for Boro in loan deal
USA international goalkeeper Zack Steffen is all set to depart Manchester City in pursuit of regular first team action at Championship side Middlesbrough. In a World Cup year, Steffen is keen to display his goalkeeping prowess on a regular basis and is concerned that staying at the Cityzens is likely to hinder his opportunity of a starting spot for his country's national side.
Steffen had been given several opportunities last year under manager Pep Guardiola, but Ederson remains the clear favourite to play the major games in between the sticks. Despite Steffen's obvious talent, he has only been considered a backup keeper at the Etihad Stadium.
Therefore a move to Middlesbrough will be an excellent move for the keeper. Boro are looking to return to the Premier League and are confident that improving their keeping options will help make that a reality.
The 27-year-old has been appearing for the USA on a regular basis, including during the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament.
Snapping up Steffen will be a huge coup for Chris Wilder, who has been seeking a new keeper for over six months.
