Argentine goalkeeper Sergio Romero is prepared to return to Manchester United this summer, according to Manchester Evening News.

Romero was the Red Devils' second-choice goalkeeper between 2015 and 2020 before falling out-of-favour under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The 35-year-old eventually left the club on a free transfer in the summer of 2021, but he would welcome a reunion ahead of next season.

Romero is currently a free-agent following a solitary season at Venezia. It remains to be seen whether United make a contract offer to him.

Dean Henderson will be leaving for Nottingham Forest on loan soon, and this would leave Tom Heaton as the deputy to David de Gea.

Heaton has played just 45 minutes of competitive football over the past two years, and United could be tempted to land another keeper.

Romero could be an attractive option on a free transfer, but manager Erik ten Hag is said to have the preference to sign Daniel Bachmann.

The Dutch tactician wanted to sign the Watford goalkeeper for Ajax last year, and he could urge United to pursue his services this summer.
