Chelsea make first bid for De Jong

Chelsea have made a part-exchange proposal to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, according to Sport.

The Blues have already spent over £160m on new purchases, and their spending could continue over the coming weeks.

A new midfielder is among the priorities for them, and Sport reveal that they have now made an official bid for De Jong.

The west London giants have proposed to pay £59m for the 25-year-old with Marcos Alonso moving in the opposite direction.

Alonso has already agreed personal terms with Barcelona, and it remains to be seen whether the Catalans accept the proposal.

The Blaugrana ideally want around £67m from De Jong's services, and prefer to sign Alonso in a separate transfer agreement.

Meanwhile, the Blues would still need to convince De Jong over a transfer. He appears reluctant to leave Camp Nou this summer.

His deferred wages need to be repaid, but De Jong also has second thoughts over a Premier League move. The Blues have to persuade him.
