Man Utd intensify talks to sign Barcelona defender

Manchester United have intensified talks to sign highly-rated Barcelona defender Sergino Dest, according to Sport.

The Red Devils are keen on landing a new right-back before the deadline, and Dest is the priority target for Erik ten Hag.

The USA international played under him at former club Ajax, and a reunion could be on the cards in the coming days.

According to Sport, Ten Hag has given the green light for the Red Devils to bring Dest, who is out-of-favour at Camp Nou.

The 21-year-old has immense potential, but manager Xavi Hernandez wants to replace him with a summer signing of his own.

Still, Barcelona won't sell him for cheap, and they are expected to demand at least £17m upfront for the ex-Ajax graduate.

Ten Hag believes Dest can be an important player under him at United as he has the attributes to suit his tactical system.

The right-back is strong with his dribbling and distribution, but also has a good tackle in him alongside solid concentration.
