Chelsea misfit to leave and return to his former club
Hakim Ziyech will move back to former club Ajax Amsterdam this summer, after Chelsea decided that they do not want to keep the attacking midfielder. Reduced to substitute appearances so far this season in the Premier League, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has decided that Ziyech's time is up and he will be allowed to return to the Netherlands.
Hakim Ziyech is a fan favourite with Ajax's supporters, having spent close to four years at the club, scoring 38 goals in 112 games. The Morocco international also had spells with Heerenveen and Twente, and grew up in the Netherlands.
At 29-years-old, it is unlikely that Ziyech will have much time to progress at Stamford Bridge any longer, and a return to Ajax will likely see him receive more playing time and have a greater impact than at his current team.
Yesterday a report emerged that Ajax are in competition with Tottenham to sign Ziyech, but it is understood that Spurs were only willing to sign the player on loan, in comparison to the 10 million euro offer that Ajax have already submitted to Chelsea.
