Chelsea failed with £39m bid for Ivory Coast international
Chelsea failed with a deadline-day move to sign PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahima Sangare, according to Eindhovens Dagblad.
The Blues were determined to land a defensive midfielder before the deadline, and they made an ambitious attempt to pursue Sangare.
However, PSV were firm that the player was not for sale, considering the Dutch transfer window closed 24 hours before the English one.
Sangare had a £31.5m release clause on his contract earlier this summer, but PSV removed it by committing him to a new long-term deal.
As a result, they had the power to reject the late approach, and it remains to be seen whether the Blues return for him at the turn of the year.
Chelsea also failed with an attempt to land Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez, but it has been reported that they will make a fresh bid in January.
After unsuccessful bids to sign both players, the Blues eventually landed Denis Zakaria on loan from Juventus with a future buy option.
