Darren Bent feels Chelsea midfielder would excel at Newcastle

Former Premier League star Darren Bent believes Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount would be a perfect signing for Newcastle United this summer.

The England international is about to enter the final year of his contract with the London giants and he has no plans to extend his stay.

As a result, he has been touted to pursue a new challenge. Manchester United and Liverpool are currently keeping a close eye on him.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Bent has now said that Mount would be perfect for the Magpies and he is surprised that the club are not in the mix.

He said: "I’m surprised Newcastle aren’t heavily in for him because he would be perfect [for them]. Surely if you’re trying to get to the next level, he is exactly what you’re looking for."

Mount has turned down multiple contract offers from the Blues and he could be sold for around £50 million at the end of the campaign.

Newcastle are yet to make any enquiries for him but they could be serious contenders if they qualify for next season's Champions League.
