Manchester United are reportedly planning a shock approach to sign former Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori this summer.

The Red Devils currently have Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez as their first-choice central defenders under Erik ten Hag.

However, there is a reduction in quality behind them. Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have tended to lack the consistency.

Maguire or Lindelof could be sold for an upgrade and The Sun claim that the Red Devils are planning to swoop for Tomori.

Tomori started off his Premier League career with the Blues but he made the switch to AC Milan after falling out-of-favour.

He has since developed into one of the best central defenders in Serie A and he could now make a return to English football.

AC Milan have had their financial problems since their recent takeover and they could consider a big-money sale this summer.

Tomori is currently valued at around €60 million and it remains to be seen whether United are prepared to pay such a fee.
