Rafa: Barry wants to leave Villa

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez believes that Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry is looking to leave the club this summer. The Reds have made a £10million offer for the England international which the Villains have stated as unwelcome.

"If your captain wants to leave it's a problem but that's football," said Benítez.

Liverpool are keen to bring in a midfielder to partner with Steven Gerrard for next season, and Barry has emerged as the primary target for Benitez.

"We were just talking about football so why he was so angry, I do not know," he added. "I have been very clear. The player had said before that he wanted to play Champions League football. We knew that and so tried to sign a good player. It is that simple."
