Sergio Reguilon set for Man Utd loan move
Manchester United are to sign Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham on a six month loan deal, with the Spanish left-back set to provide backup for injured Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. A move for Marc Cucurella fell through after Chelsea rejected Man Utd's advances, and therefore United have moved for the former Real Madrid defender instead.
The 26-year-old moved to Tottenham in 2020 and has slowly fallen down the pecking order at White Hart Lane. Last season a loan deal at Atletico Madrid followed, but the club opted not to sign the Madrid-born player on a permanent basis.
Erik Ten Hag had been expected to sign a new player before the end of the transfer deadline, but the move for Reguilon is a huge surprise, as no report of a potential deal had been suggested until today.
It is understood that United are not interested in a permanent deal for the left-sided defender, and the move is just to provide some defensive cover while other first-team players will be out of action and unavailable.
