Man Utd hold surprise interest in Bundesliga defender
Manchester United could go head-to-head with Newcastle United to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah in January.
The Germany international has less than two years left on his contract with the Bundesliga club and he has no plans to renew.
As a result, Leverkusen are contemplating his departure and The Sun claim that he could leave during the upcoming window.
Newcastle are looking for a new centre-back with Sven Botman's injury woes and they have identified Tah as the ideal candidate.
However, they are set to face competition from the Red Devils, who are also eyeing a new central defender at the start of the year.
Raphael Varane has been out-of-favour under Erik ten Hag recently and there are claims that he could leave this winter.
Jean-Clair Todibo is the main target on their radar, but they are also looking at Tah, who could be available for a lesser price.
Nice want at least €40m to part ways with Todibo in January. Tah could be available for half the fee in the next transfer window.
