Newcastle and Barcelona to battle for David De Gea?
Newcastle United could make a move to replace injured Nick Pope with a move for Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea, despite the ongoing discussions that could see De Gea sign for Barcelona. Man Utd released De Gea during the summer after not offering the keeper a new deal and he has since been a free agent.
It is understood that Nick Pope will be out until February, and Martin Dubravka has been given a chance to take the number 1 slot at St James' Park, however Eddie Howe will be certain to be open to signing a new keeper in the January transfer window. De Gea has been looking for a new club for several months and is said to be expecting a wage of around £150,000 to choose his next destination.
Barcelona are known to be looking for a replacement for Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, with their German first choice goalkeeper also out through long-term injury. The Nou Camp side are ready to offer an 18 month deal to David De Gea and are confident that a deal can be wrapped up shortly.
