Arsenal in very advanced talks to sign Martin Zubimendi
Arsenal are in very advanced talks to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi this summer, according to David Ornstein.
The Gunners are expected to bolster their midfield in the summer with the anticipated departures of Jorginho as well as Thomas Partey.
Jorginho and Partey are contracted until June this year, and Arsenal have no plans of extending their respective deals at the moment.
Zubimendi has been earmarked as a possible replacement and Ornstein claims that talks are 'very advanced' to bring him to the Emirates.
There is an expectation that he will be the first summer signing.
Meanwhile, Ornstein said that the club are unlikely to recruit both Bruno Guimaraes and Zubimendi, considering the huge outlay required.
The reputed journalist believes Zubimendi could be the only midfield arrival while the Gunners could focus on landing a marquee striker.
Newcastle's Alexander Isak is a top target for the Gunners, but may only become available if the Magpies don't qualify for the Champions League.
