Liverpool frontrunners to sign 25yo PL star

Liverpool have emerged as frontrunners to land Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi before the transfer window closes, according to The Sun.

The Merseyside giants are presently short in the central defensive department following the departure of Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen.

The Reds have just three central defenders in the first-team squad in Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez. Gomez has been injury-prone.

Hence, the Premier League champions can ill-afford to go into the new season without reinforcement and Guehi has now emerged as a top target.

The Sun claim that the Reds have a free run at signing the Palace captain with Newcastle United having turned attention to landing Malick Thiaw.

The AC Milan ace has reached a verbal agreement with the Magpies and has also been granted permission by the Rossoneri to move to Tyneside.

This has left Liverpool with an easy route to land Guehi, considering Tottenham Hotspur are no longer pursuing a deal for the 25-year-old.
