Liverpool in shock approach for Brentford defender Collins
Liverpool have shown interest in signing 24-year-old centre-back Nathan Collins from Brentford as the club look to conclude their transfer business in time for the Premier League season. Arne Slot's side lost the Community Shield on penalties yesterday, and with the future of Ibrahima Konate unclear, Liverpool could move for a new defender this week.
Collins, who is the club captain at Brentford, can play at full-back or central defence, and since arriving from Wolves has emerged as one of the club's best players. He also has 30 caps for the Republic of Ireland and would offer welcome support to the Anfield defence.
Liverpool are to defend their Premier League crown and have been very busy on the transfer market so far this summer, and the sale yesterday of Darwin Nunez to Al Hilal frees up funds for at least one more signing, believed to be Collins.
The question is whether or not Brentford will be willing to sell their prized asset. Collins' value on Transfermarkt is set at £25 million, and Brentford are said to be unwilling to listen to offers unless they exceed £35 million. Food for thought as Liverpool plan their final transfer business before the window closes on the 1st of September 2025.
