Liverpool to make January move for 25yo England star

Liverpool are planning a fresh approach for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

Guehi underwent a medical with the Reds last summer, but the Eagles pulled the plug on the transfer after they could not find a replacement.

The Englishman will enter the last six months of his contract in January and he will be free to negotiate a pre-contract with a foreign club.

Amidst this, Sky Sports claim that the Reds are contemplating a winter approach rather than waiting for him until the end of the season.

The Merseyside giants are short in the heart of the defence, given Giovanni Leoni has been ruled out with a knee injury for the campaign.

Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez are the specialist centre-backs in the squad and the latter has been injury-prone in his career.

Any injury to one of Van Dijk or Konate could be disastrous for the Reds. Guehi would be a superb signing to provide depth and competition.
