Tottenham Hotspur are known to be weighing up a potential bid for AZ Alkmaar striker Vincent Janssen. The Dutchman has impressed one and all in the Eredivisie after his move from Almere City last summer.
Recent speculation suggested that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino was keeping a close eye on Southampton striker Shane Long during Ireland's friendly against the Netherlands.
However, according to The Mail, Long was never on the club's radar, and it was Janssen that had been watched by Pochettino and his staff.
Scouts from Chelsea and Manchester United were also in attendance to monitor the young striker dubbed 'the next Ruud van Nisterooy'.
The 21-year-old scored 27 goals in 34 league outings for his club last season.
