  • Ginter has been linked with a move to Arsenal since June, when midfielder Francis Coquelin agreed a loan deal to the German side.

With Arsenal short of defensive reinforcements for the coming season, Arsene Wenger has decided to make a move for the young German defender. Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker are Wenger's preferred defensive duo, whilst Thomas Vermaelen is expected to play backup for the new year. The player will also be out of action for a month through injury.

The 19-year-old player, who is comfortable playing in both defence or in midfield, has a further three years on his contract at Freiburg.
