Arsenal open talks for midfielder Josuha Guilavogui

06 August 2013 - 10:48

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been in contact with French side Rennes regarding a potential transfer move for St Etienne defensive midfielder Josuha Guilavogui. The player has been linked with a move to England in the past and the Gunners are ready to spend around 7.5 million Euros to sign the 22-year-old.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • Arsene Wenger has always suggested that he would sign any player that would improve his squad; one area he has been looking at is the defensive midfield role which has recently been filled by players who typically would play further forward. Jack Wilshere and Mikel Arteta have both been asked to play more defensively last season. Since the departure of Alexandre Song to Barcelona, many believe the Gunners have missed the type of player who can fill the gap between midfield and defence.

The Gunners have decided to now pursue a defensive midfielder as their top target for the summer and have indicated that Les Verts' midfielder Guilavogui is an excellent option.

The player earned his first two caps for France in June 2013, playing against Brazil and Uruguay. The 22-year-old impressed in those two games and is expected to feature more regularly for the French national side going forward.

Arsenal are hopeful that a deal can be agreed in the next two weeks and that the player can feature in the Gunners' opening Premier League games.
