Liverpool hammer Notts County after scare

28 August 2013 - 15:54

Notts County made a stunning comeback against Liverpool in the Capital One Cup tie to take the game to extra time against the hosts, who responded with two extra time goals to secure a win after dominating the game.

  • Chelsea expected to sell striker after loan deal
  • Arsenal defender misses training ahead of Man Utd game

  • Liverpool lead at half time courtesy of goals from Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge. Sterling scored 4 minutes into the game after making a run through two Notts County players and firing a low shot. Sturridge scored on the half hour mark with a shot from 12 yards, making it 3 goals in 3 games for the England international. Steven Gerrard, Kolo Toure and Daniel Agger all hit the woodwork during the first 45 minutes.

New signing Aly Cissokho was pulled off on a stretcher 9 minutes into his first start, but Brendan Rodgers played down the injury saying the Frenchman is in contention for the Manchester United game next sunday.

County rallied in the second half and made a superb fightback, courtesy of a powerful header from Martinique striker Yoann Arquin on 62 minutes. Arquin created the second goal for fellow striker Adam Coombes who fired in a shot at the far post.

The game was taken to extra time, and goals from Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge secured the win for Liverpool.
