Real Madrid chasing Man City defender Zabaleta

23 November 2013 - 12:13

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti could turn to Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta as a possible signing, but only if a deal to sign Chelsea's right back Cesar Azpilicueta falls through.

  • Chelsea suffer double injury blow ahead of Villa trip
  • Gabriel Magalhaes to sign new Arsenal deal

  • 28-year-old defender Pablo Zabaleta has been one of City's most influential players in recent seasons, with both former manager Roberto Mancini and current boss Manuel Pellegrini preferring the Argentinian defender to other full back Micah Richards. However, there appears to be some suggestion that Richards will soon be taking the place of Zabaleta's in the City first team as Real Madrid reportedly have stepped up their interest in the Argentine defender.

Real Madrid have already been in contact with Chelsea regarding a possible transfer for Cesar Azpilicueta, but manager Jose Mourinho has quoted his former club a massive 14 million Euro price for the Spanish full back. Ancelotti is not willing to spend more than 8 million Euros on a new defender and has now contacted City regarding a move for Zabaleta.

Real Madrid's top priority in the January transfer window appears to be the signing of a right back and the third placed Spanish side are confident that they will be able to secure a deal for either Zabaleta or Azpilicueta before the end of the transfer window.
