Thomas Vermaelen agrees deal to join Man Utd?

16 June 2014 - 12:28

Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen looks set to follow the footsteps of Robin van Persie and sign for Manchester United during the summer transfer window, The Telegraph reports.

  • Chelsea ready new contract for star midfielder
  • Chelsea make first move to sign Xabi Alonso
  • The Belgian international is understood to be keen on a summer switch way from the Gunners following a dismal season where he was pecked down the order, with manager Arsene Wenger choosing Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny for the central defensive partnership.

The Red Devils are understood to have targeted the 28-year-old as a suitable replacement at the club, following the departures of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.

According to The Telegraph, Vermaelen, who shares the same agent as Van Persie, has agreed a deal in principle with the Mancunian giants, and only a transfer fee is left to be settled with their league rivals.
