Liverpool make fresh offer for Chelsea full back

24 July 2014 - 07:23

Liverpool have renewed their interest in Chelsea's left back Ryan Bertrand. After the Blues acquired Filipe Luis from Atletico Madrid, Bertrand's future at Stamford Bridge has never been so uncertain.

  • Bertrand had been acting as a backup for Ashley Cole in previous seasons but Jose Mourinho regularly deployed Cesar Azpilicueta at the left back position.

Ashley Cole has since moved on a free transfer to Serie A giants Roma and Azpilicueta is now the preferred first choice option on the left side of Mourinho's defence, whilst Filipe Luis' signing also indicates that Bertrand is not a part of Chelsea's long term plans.

Bertrand has been tracked by the Anfield club's manager Brendan Rodgers for several months and Liverpool had attempted to complete a move back in January but could not agree a fee with the Blues.

Now the defender has handed in a written transfer request as he seeks regular first team football and Bertrand is expected to make a permanent move before the start of the upcoming campaign.
