Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to wrap up a £2 million loan deal for Danny Welbeck after the striker had been told by senior Man Utd officials that he is free to leave Old Trafford for the remainder of the league campaign.

  • The England international forward has slipped down the pecking order at United since the arrival of Louis van Gaal, with Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney still the Dutch coach's preferred forward uo.

Spurs are desperate to find a new striker before the transfer window is slammed shut on September 1st and are confident that Welbeck is the right man for the vacancy.

Emmanuel Adebayor remains Tottenham's first choice striker but coach Mauricio Pochettino is looking to add some competition to his squad.
