Italian champions Juventus are close to agreeing a deal to sign Mehdi Benatia from Bayern Munich, according to reports in the Italian media.
Benatia only moved to Bayern Munich from AS Roma two years ago. But following the arrival of Mats Hummels in Bavaria, Benatia is likely to be surplus to requirements at the Allianz Arena, and a move back to Serie A appears to be on the cards.
La Repubblica is reporting that an agreement between Juve and Bayern is close to being reached, with a potential fee of €20 million.
Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri can already count the likes of Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Barzgli among his defensive options, as well as young star Daniele Rugani. But it seems that he is keen to further bolster his back-line with the capture of 29-year-old Benatia.
This news comes fresh off the heels of the Bianconeri's announcement that former Barcelona and Sevilla full-back Dani Alves will join them next season.
Alves chose to exercise an option in his Barcelona contract that allowed him to leave on a free transfer this summer, and Juventus have moved to snap up the veteran Brazilian.
Alves completed his medical yesterday and his transfer was confirmed to the press.
Juventus also secured the signing of Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic earlier this month, after activating the Bosnian player's €32 million contractual release clause.
