Chelsea are eyeing a surprise deal for former Bolton Wanderers and Sunderland full-back Marcos Alonso. The 25-year-old is currently plying his trade for Italian side Fiorentina.
Alonso, who graduated from Real Madrid's youth system, appeared for the Trotters between 2010 and 2013 before he moved on to La Viola. He was therein loaned out to the Black Cats for the 2013-14 season where he notched 20 appearances in all competitions.
The left-back had his best spell in Italy during the previous campaign, and this is said to have caught the eye of Blues coach Antonio Conte.
Transfer expert Gianluca di Marzio says the Blues have stepped up their interest in the player as they lack a specialist back-up to Cesar Azpilicueta.
The Blues are currently dependent on young winger Kenedy to satisfy the deputy role after Baba Rahman joined Schalke 04 on a temporary basis this summer.
