Preview: Arsenal face near impossible Bayern test

07 March 2017 - 16:57

Nothing seems to be going well for Arsenal at the moment, and things are not about to get any easier. The Gunners face Bayern Munich tonight at the Emirates, looking to overturn a 5-1 first leg deficit.

  • Chelsea make first move to sign Bournemouth star
  • Atletico Madrid planning shock move for Chelsea star

  • Arsenal have fallen at the final sixteen stage of the Champions League in each of their last six seasons, and after a second half collapse in the first leg, which saw Bayern Munich score four goals, whilst supporters questioned the player's commitment and the manager's tactics, it looks like that statistic will extend to seven.

To make things even worse for the North London club, no club in Champions League history has progressed through a knockout round after having a four or more goal deficit from the first leg.

After being left out at the weekend due to a rumoured training ground bust up, Alexis Sanchez is set to return to the starting lineup for Arsenal, however Mesut Ozil will be unavailable again. Aaron Ramsey was a substitute for the Liverpool match, so could make an appearance at some point.

Key Bayern Munich players Mats Hummels, Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben and Xabi Alonso were all on the bench for their last match and are all in contention for selection at the Emirates.
