Spurs defender close to contract extension

13 March 2017 - 06:15

Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld is set to be rewarded with a fresh contract following his impressive displays alongside Jan Vertonghen in the heart of the defence.

  • Chelsea duo return to partial team training
  • Chelsea planning to sell Sterling to sign Crystal Palace star?

  • The Belgian international has formed an impressive pairing alongside his compatriot at Spurs, and he is close to agreeing terms on a contract extension.

According to The Mirror, the centre-back is on the cusp of signing a new five-year deal which would erase his present £25m release clause.

Spurs have shown intent to keep hold of their defensive strength with Danny Rose, Eric Dier, Kevin Wimmer, Ben Davies, Kyle Walker and Jan Vertonghen all having inked long-term deals.

Tottenham Hotspur moved a step closer to a potential FA Cup triumph after they beat Millwall by a convincing 6-0 scoreline in the quarter-final stage.

The game, nevertheless, did bring about a negative with Harry Kane likely to be ruled out for the season with an ankle problem sustained in the early minutes of the game.
