Manchester clubs set to battle for Serge Aurier

05 June 2017 - 08:05

Manchester United and Manchester City are both interested in PSG right-back Serge Aurier and are set to start a bidding war for the player.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • The 24-year-old Ivory Coast international has been impressive for PSG this season, appearing 29 times, assisting four goals, winning 34 tackles and having a pass accuracy of 89 percent. He also grabbed his first international goal for Ivory Coast at the start of the year.

However, PSG will be open to offers for the defender. The club is still believed to be unhappy with the conduct of the Aurier following the comments he made about certain players and then manager Laurent Blanc last season. He called Blanc a "fiotte", which is a homophobic slur, and Angel Di Maria a "clown", before criticizing Zlatan Ibrahimovic's fan favourite status.

The Daily Star has reported that both Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho have been put on red alert and both want to bring Aurier to Manchester.

Aurier is somewhat of a second-choice defender for both managers as United are chasing Benfica right-back Nelson Semedo while City want Tottenham full-back Kyle Walker.

However, the report states that Mourinho might go ahead and get both Semedo and Aurier as he is looking to add depth to his squad ahead of Manchester United's return to the Champions League next season.
