Robert Lewandowski was extremely vocal about his teammates and the lack of help he received in the last few games of the Bundesliga which denied him the top scorer award.
Bayern Munich had an underwhelming season despite winning the Bundesliga by 15 points. They failed to win the German Cup and was knocked out in the quarter-finals of the Champions League by Real Madrid.Â
Carlo Ancelotti is expected to make some major changes at the club following the retirement of Xabi Alonso and Philipp Lahm. The futures of Thomas Muller, Renato Sanchez, and Douglas Costa are also in doubt after they all underperformed this past season.
However, Robert Lewandowski has now sparked exit rumours after he went on record to blame his teammates for him losing the Bundesliga top scorer award to Borussia Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabonese international finished with 32 goals, two more than Lewandowski.
Speaking to reporters in Poland before their World Cup qualifying match against Romania, he was quoted by ESPN as saying: "I wasn't completely satisfied with the way my team helped me. Immediately after the last game, I felt anger. I was disappointed with my team. That was the feeling I had."
The public criticism of his teammates was extremely shocking and it might be an indication of the Pole's disappointment in the team as a whole after failing to do well in the Champions League yet again.Â
Real Madrid was previously linked to Lewandowski but a deal never materialised. That interest could be reignited again as Alvaro Morata looks set to leave the club. With Kylian Mbappe's future still uncertain, Lewandowski could be an easier and proven option for Los Blancos.
