Arsenal legend Robert Pires believes Mesut Ozil is unhappy with manager Arsene Wenger after the club underspent during the summer transfer window.
The Gunners wrapped up the signings of Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette earlier in the mix with the latter costing a club-record £52.7m from French club Lyon.
The likes of Thomas Lemar and Riyad Mahrez were linked with potential moves during the dying stages of the summer transfer window, but the club ultimately settled for just two signings.
Pires, who trains regularly with his former employers, backed the Germany international amid criticism over his average performances in the top-flight this term.
He told German tabloid Bild: "Ozil is a warrior who wants to win something. To me, he seems so angry about the fact that Arsenal hasn't put together the team with which he can make a difference. They only spent money on Alexandre Lacazette. That's not enough to compete for the top spots."
Despite Ozil's mediocre showing of late, club-captain Per Mertesacker has also insisted his compatriot is committed to the club's cause.
Ozil has just eight months left on his existing deal, and talks over an extension have reached a standstill due to the midfielder's £350,000-a-week wage demands.
Arsenal take on Serbian champions Red Star Belgrade in the Europa League on Thursday night, before facing a testing trip to Ronald Koeman's Everton on Sunday.
