Marcos Alonso admits Morata is upset after Spain snub

21 March 2018 - 15:19

Chelsea wing-back Marcos Alonso has revealed that Alvaro Morata is not happy after missing out on a call-up to the Spain national side.

  • Chelsea have discussed move for Alejandro Garnacho
  • Spanish star has arrived in London to complete Arsenal transfer

  • The striker had failed to score in 13 straight game for the Blues, and this eventually cost him a place in Julen Lopetegui's squad.

In Morata's absence, Diego Costa returned to the mix for La Roja, and Alonso has now admitted that his compatriot was not happy about the decision.

"Alvaro wasn't happy. He's gone through a couple of difficult months because of a back problem," he is quoted as saying by Evening Standard.

"He's at 100 percent, he got back to scoring the other day. "I hope he helps us at the end of the season. He's really important and I hope he's at the World Cup."

Morata returned to scoring ways against Leicester City in the FA Cup quarter-final last weekend, and his goal eventually proved vital in a 2-1 triumph over the Foxes in added extra-time.

Compatriot Cesc Fabregas also missed on the selection for the Spanish squad, but the Blues still have Cesar Azpilicueta and Alonso representing La Roja, with the latter having earned his maiden call-up.
