Liverpool have reportedly moved ahead of Bayern Munich in the pursuit of RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner at the end of the ongoing campaign.

  • The Germany international has recently talked up a possible move to Bayern in the summer but the Bavarian giants are yet to hold any discussions with Leipzig over a switch.

According to Bild, the Bundesliga holders are currently focused on extending the contract of Robert Lewandowski and this could hamper Werner's prospects of cementing the centre-forward role, if he makes the move.

Owing to this, Jurgen Klopp's side are said to have jumped ahead in the race to pursue the marksman's services, although the Reds may need to assure the German of regular gametime upfront.

Firmino has been the regular choice to lead the line for the Reds under Klopp, but the Brazilian has not enjoyed the best of seasons with just 11 goals across all competitions for the club.

Werner, who will be entering the final year of his contract in the summer, is likely to be valued at around &pound36m by Leipzig. Chelsea's Tammy Abraham has been earmarked as his probable successor by the German side.
