Frustrated Pochettino says club should change his job title

31 July 2019 - 02:02

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino looked visibly frustrated after Spurs' 1-0 win over Real Madrid in a pre-season friendly, as the Argentinian coach looked to dodge questions regarding the club's transfer market activity. Pochettino insisted that he is not in charge of club policy regarding new signings and that he is in the dark on any new player acquisitions.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • It is understood that Spurs are in the race to sign multiple new players but most of the club's negotiating is handled by Daniel Levy. Pochettino is generally in the dark on transfer deals but is consulted.

When asked about the future of Danny Rose, Pochettino quipped: “I am not in charge and I know nothing about the situation of my players. I am only coaching them and trying to get the best from them. Sell, buy players, sign contract, not sign contract – I think it is not in my hands, it’s in the club’s hands and [chairman] Daniel Levy. The club need to change my title and description. Of course I am the boss deciding the strategic play, but in another area I don’t know. Today, I feel like I am the coach.”

There is still uncertainty over the future of Danny Rose and Christian Eriksen at White Hart Lane, both of whom are expected to leave Tottenham this summer.
