Aston Villa closing in on French international midfielder

17 January 2020 - 13:08

Latest reports in the UK suggest that Aston Villa are ready to add more personnel to their squad in January, by bringing in French international midfielder Steven Nzonzi from Roma.

  • Mikel Arteta confirms big injury boost for Spurs clash

  • The 31-year-old is currently out on-loan at Galatasaray but after just six months in Istanbul, the player’s relationship with the Turkish giants is understood to have broken down.

Nzonzi has previous experience playing in the Premier League having had spells at Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City between 2009 and 2015. A move to Sevilla then saw an upturn in form for the Frenchman, which led to him winning his first full international cap in 2017.

A big money move to Roma 12 months later saw Nzonzi struggle to get to grips with Serie A and after just one season in the Eternal City, he was sent out on-loan to Galatasaray. Villa have been very active so far in this window having already secured the services of Pepe Reina and Danny Drinkwater, as they look to consolidate their place in the Premier League next season.
