Chelsea to move for £75m-rated centre-back?

28 November 2020 - 20:57

Chelsea could reportedly revive their long-term interest in Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

  • Man Utd handed major injury boost for Liverpool game
  • Confirmed Arsenal line-up vs Fulham, five changes with Zubimendi out

  • The Blues signed as many as seven players in the summer and including Thiago Silva, who has become an integral figure in the central defence.

The Brazilian has formed an impressive partnership alongside Kurt Zouma, but there remains the speculation that they could sign another centre-back.

According to Football.London, there could be a firesale at Napoli amid the growing financial concerns due to the coronavirus pandemic, which has seen the players and staff unpaid this season.

It is added that this could lead to the departure of high-profile players, in particular, with one of those being Koulibaly, who has been linked with the Blues since the summer of 2016.

Koulibaly was valued at around £75m by the Naples outfit last summer and that put Manchester City off from signing him. They instead chose to land Ruben Dias from Benfica.

His future continues to remain the subject of speculation and it remains to be seen whether the Blues can afford his services at the turn of the year. The west London spent around £225m on new players last summer.
