Predicted Man Utd line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Man City, Ronaldo and Varane out

06 March 2022 - 13:58

Manchester United make the trip to the Etihad Stadium for this evening's Premier League derby against Manchester City.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • The Red Devils are currently clinging onto the fourth spot, and may need to win against the Cityzens to sustain their position.

Ahead of the game, they have suffered a big setback with Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw and Edinson Cavani possibly out.

    Predicted Line-up:

David de Gea has been an undisputed starter between the sticks. He has delivered several outstanding displays, but has been constantly letdown by the defence. The Spaniard will eyeing more assurance in front of him.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has had the better of Raheem Sterling in multiple derbies. This could see him continue at right-back. With Shaw injured, Alex Telles is set to start on the opposite end.

Varane is another player who is carrying a minor injury. In the Frenchman's absence, Harry Maguire is widely expected to accompany Victor Lindelof at the heart of the defence.

Nemanja Matic impressed with his distribution against the Hornets, but his limited mobility could see him drop to the bench.

Hence, we fancy Fred to accompany Scott McTominay in the centre of the park. The latter is available after a bout of illness.

In attack, Bruno Fernandes should be a confirmed starter in the number 10 role as he has been for most of the campaign.

He could be accompanied by Paul Pogba and Jadon Sancho on either flank while Marcus Rashford could start up front.

Both Ronaldo and Cavani have been deemed unfit for the game. This should pave the way for Rashford's return to the XI.

Anthony Elanga is also capable of leading the line, but Ralf Rangnick may prefer to go with the vast experience of Rashford.

The England forward has made a goal contribution in the last two league visits to the Etihad where the Red Devils have won.

Predicted Man Utd line-up (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Telles; Fred, McTominay; Sancho, Fernandes, Pogba; Rashford.
