Aston Villa have won the race to sign Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet on loan, as Tottenham have had their most recent offer for the Frenchman rejected. Spurs had hoped to re-sign the player for another season, but Villa's guarantee of regular first-team football as Tyrone Mings is recovering from a serious injury, appears to have swayed Lenglet to join the Villains.
With 26 games under his belt for Tottenham in the Premier League, 28-year-old Lenglet already offers plenty of top flight experience and furthermore he will boost the club's chances of European football once again.
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is a big fan of Lenglet and is delighted to have attracted a player of his calibre to the club just prior to the transfer window closing.
It is understood that the player also can make a move on a permanent basis to Aston Villa should he impress during his loan spell. Barcelona are looking for around 14 million euros to allow the France international centre-back to leave Spain on a permanent basis.
