Rampant Chelsea destroy Genk

Chelsea produced a brilliant display to annihilate Belgian visitors Genk and take top spot in the Group E standings.

A Fernando Torres brace and goals from Raul Meireles, Branislav Ivanovic and Salomon Kalou made sure that the 38,518 crowd at the Stamford Bridge got their money's worth.

Villas-Boas made six changes to his squad, with captain John Terry and new boy Juan Mata both rested.

The game started with Chelsea on the attack. They got their first chance in the 7th minute when Torres poked Nicolas Anelka's chip against the post.

Just as it seemed that it would be 'one of those days', Meireles picked up the ball and took a well hit shot from 25 yards out that sailed into the bottom corner. Chelsea had taken the lead in just 8 minutes.

Torres soon got into the action himself, with Frank Lampard's perfectly weighted through ball finding him between the two centre backs. This time, he made no mistake and calmly slotted the ball home to score his first Champions League goal in two-and-a-half years.

Chelsea were dominating play and Malouda should have scored midway through the half, but he hit Torres' cutback wide with his right foot.

Toress was in good touch, and he bagged his first brace for Chelsea soon after. In the 27th minute, he got in front of his marker and glanced Meireles' cross into the net to make it 3-0.

The game was already over, but that did not stop Lampard and Anelka from coming close to scoring yet again.

Three minutes before half time, Malouda whipped in a free-kick from the right, which was turned into the net by Branislav Ivanovic.

The second half saw similar action, with Torres and Malouda coming close and Lampard being bundled over in the penalty area by Genk's Fabian Camus.

Torres should have had his hat-trick in the 72nd minute, but Genk keeper Koteles saved from point-blank range. However, the ball fell to Kalou who easily converted the rebound to make it 5-0.

The win sees Chelsea lead Group E with seven points to Leverkusen's six. Their next match will also be against Genk, albeit away.
