Bale brace gives Spurs victory

Tottenham climbed up to 5th in the Premier League table after a convincing 3-1 win against QPR at White Hart Lane. The game saw Gareth Bale and Rafael Van der Vaart both get on the scoresheet.

The game's first chance came within the first two minutes, when QPR keeper Patrick Kenny brilliantly saved a Van der Vaart shot. Adebayor came close soon after with a headed effort that went wide off a Van der Vaart corner.

Tottenham were dominating and finally opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Aaron Lennon set up Bale to fire past a helpless Kenny.

They were 2-0 up in the 33rd minute when Van der Vaart's shot from the 20 yards out found its way into Kenny's left hand post.

Modric then came close twice, but put both efforts wide as Spurs continued attacking the QPR goal.

QPR tried attacking in the initial stages of the second half, but it was all Spurs soon after. Van der Vaart in the thick of the action, with a shot being saved again by Kenny, before Adebayor put another header wide.

QPR pulled a goal back in the 62nd minute against the run of play, when a Joey Barton corner was headed across the face of goal by Heidar Helguson, only for Jay Bothroyd to head in from three yards out.

However, Spurs restored their two goal lead only 10 minutes later, when Van der Vaart found Lennon, who exchanged a one-two with Bale before the latter sent a fine shot into the Rangers' net.

The result puts Tottenham on par with 4th placed Newcastle on points and Harry Redknapp will hope that such results keep on coming.
