Sir Alex: Ferdinand is staying at Man Utd
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson wants to keep Rio Ferdinand at Old Trafford for the forseeable future. Ferdinand has been linked with a move to Tottenham in recent weeks, but it appears there is still a future for him at the club.
Ferdinand has recently found himself displaced from the first team, losing his spot to Phil Jones and Nemanja Vidic at the heart of United's defence.
Ferguson told the Star: "I have no thoughts of letting him go. Rio's been a great player for us and it's important to explain his present position.
"There's nothing wrong with that - absolutely not. I have no issues at all with Rio - he can play for another couple of years quite easily. He's got a part to play. He's got experience and he's good in the dressing room - players look up to him.
"He's a big figure in our dressing room, so that will continue. I have no thoughts of letting him go."
Ferdinand is currently in discussions regarding a new contract with Man Utd, and last week reportedly those talks had stalled.
