Stoke draw guarantees Europa League qualification
Stoke City earned a hard fought 1-1 draw with Dinamo Kiev at the Britannia Stadium last night, and a late goal from Kenwyne Jones ensured that the Potters sit at the top of Group E on 11 points ahead of Besiktas who are on 9.
A gap of 5 points from 3rd placed Dinamo Kiev guarantees Stoke City qualification for the next round.
A Matthew Upson own goal in the 28th minute put the Ukrainian side in the driving seat. Olexandr Aliyev's shot parried off of the former West Ham and Arsenal defender into his own net, putting Kiev in the lead.
Just before half time, former Chelsea striker Andrei Shevchenko thumped the ball against the post. The Ukrainians should have been 2-0 up going in at the break.
Kenwyne Jones was the hero in the 81st minute, as he headed home a lovely floated ball from Jermaine Pennant to ensure qualification to the next round.
